M51.36 & M51.37 Code Changes
As of October 1, 2024, M51.36 & M51.37 the codes for ‘Other intervertebral disc degeneration, lumbar region / lumbosacral region’ are no longer valid. These codes must now be coded to the 6th digit.
The new valid codes are as follows:
M51.36 Other intervertebral disc degeneration, lumbar region
M51.360 …… with discogenic back pain only
M51.361 …… with lower extremity pain only
M51.362 …… with discogenic back pain and lower extremity pain
M51.369 …… without mention of lumbar back pain or lower extremity pain
M51.37 Other intervertebral disc degeneration, lumbosacral region
M51.370 …… with discogenic back pain only
M51.371 …… with lower extremity pain only
M51.372 …… with discogenic back pain and lower extremity pain
M51.379 …… without mention of lumbar back pain or lower extremity pain
Note: Changes to the ICD-10 codes generally occur on October 1.
