Superbills are a mainstay of the cash practice. They contain information that the patient can use file their own insurance claims.
A major problem with a superbill is that since they are simply a printout on plain paper which means that they could be reproduced and fraudulent claims then submitted by the patient.
That’s why we have always recommended that if you are not going to file claims for the patient that you provide them with printed claim forms instead of superbills.
Some insurance companies are no longer accepting superbills and are demanding claim forms to process claims.
Medicare (the exception to everything) requires that the doctor file the claims for the patient and that they must be on the proper claim form.
